Print your own mount

Every RaceZen mount is 3D printed. So here are the files — free, for every mount we make, with the print settings in the box. Print one this weekend.

Why we are doing this

Sailing is a small world, and it gets better when things are shared

We sell mounts and we are giving away the files to make them. That is not a mistake, and here is the thinking behind it.

It is about the sailing community, everywhere

The same boats race in Port Phillip, on the Solent, off Long Island and in the Baltic, and none of them should be waiting on a parcel from Australia. A file crosses a border in a second. Give it away and a club anywhere in the world can be on the water this weekend.

There is no secret in here

Our mounts are 3D printed, not moulded. Anyone with a set of calipers and an afternoon could work the shape out. We would rather hand it over properly, with the settings that actually work, than watch people struggle with a bad copy.

Sailors build better than we do

Sailors have been modifying boats for as long as there have been boats. Someone out there will make a better mount than ours — for a class we have never sailed, on a deck we have never seen. We would rather hand over the file and find out what you come up with.

No printer? Someone near you has one

Most towns have a 3D printing business that will run one off for the price of a coffee and a bit of filament. Most clubs have a member with a printer in the garage who would be delighted to be asked. Send them the file.

No printer of your own?

Find a print-on-demand service

Send them the STL and the PDF, ask for PETG or ASA, and it arrives in the post. A mount is a small job — a couple of hours of machine time and a few dollars of filament — so it is one of the cheapest things a print shop will quote you for.

Or search a town

These open a search, not a shop we have a deal with. Ask for PETG or ASA rather than PLA, and send the PDF with the file — it has the orientation and the wall count, which is most of what a printer needs to know.

Post your prints, and share your code

We would love to see them. Post a photo of your mount on the boat to the RaceZen community on Facebook — what you printed it in, what you changed, how it held up.

And if you have tuned a profile that works better on your printer, share the code. Someone with the same machine and a wet weekend will be very glad you did, and the good ones end up here with your name on them.

Download a mount

Each one comes as an STL, already oriented for printing, and a one-page PDF with everything else — the material to use, the full slicer profile, the hardware you will need, and the two things that go wrong if you ignore them.

Dinghies · skiffs

Mast Mount Mk1

Clamps to the mast, above the boom and clear of the kicker. The one most dinghy sailors start with.

Keelboats · cockpits

Bulkhead Mount Mk1

Bolts or bonds to a flat bulkhead where the helm can read it without leaving the tiller.

Foredecks · side decks

Deck Mount Mk1

Sits low on the deck with the screen angled towards you rather than at the sky, which keeps it readable and cooler.

ILCA · Laser

ILCA Deck Mount Mk1

Shaped for the ILCA foredeck. Check your class rules before you race with it — they have the final say, not us.

Licence. These files are free to download, print and modify for your own use and your club's. Please do not sell prints of them. If you want to make them commercially, get in touch — we are usually happy to say yes.

A mount you printed is your own work. We cannot warrant a part we did not make, in a material we did not choose, on a printer we have never seen. Tether the phone, check the fasteners before you launch, and use your judgement.

Class rules have the final say. Some classes restrict what you can carry on the boat. Check yours before you race with a phone mounted, whoever printed the mount.
